Hi Guys!

Try yourselves:

1. Log as admin;
2. Open the Administration Panel;
3. Click on Categories;
4. Click on Insert new;
5. Choice any name, let the moderation option setted to no and the problem: choice General and DON'T choice Administration.

What happens? JForum is obedient: you, admin, that are under the group Administration, will not access the newer Category!!!

The problem is that you won't access it neither on the JForum's main page, neither on Administration Panel!

You, admin, simply lost the control over that Category forever!!!

Detail: if you, admin, goes to Categories page, the recent created Categories will not appear there... but... if you goes to Forums page, and edit an existing (or add another) Forum, you can change its Category: all the Categories are shown there!!! :roll:

Do you see some solution?

Just go to Admin Panel -> Groups -> Permissions and fix it.

Hi Rafael,
I have the very same issue. The issue is: you cannot create any category with other group than Administrations. You can play around with any Permissions... but it doesn't change anything. If you create a new category with an other group (not Administration) it will be lost for ever.

I'm using 2.1.7 (beta, just downloaded today) and Oracle as backend.

Thanks a lot and congratulations for your very nice forum

I think we should look into the entire permission system for JForum 3. It has become complex, and I think some part of it is hard to understand for users.

Yes, you are right. I understood the issue, it was not a bug. I'm very sorry for this. The main misunderstanding is: if I am an administrator I should see everything, even the categories of other groups. Or if I can't I could not create even a new category for an other group.

Thanks,
emiliano

The problem is not the code (which is very simple, by version 2.1.7), but the user interface, which is complex. By providing an easier / better way to handle permissions, we end with all these problems.

That's a very big dog. I think I want to go home now and hug this tiny ad:
